Sverige i fokus — the official study guide
Sverige i fokus is the only material that the citizenship test is explicitly based on. It is free, produced by UHR — and this is where you start.
What is Sverige i fokus?
Sverige i fokus is a study material with the subtitle Basic knowledge of Swedish society. It was produced by UHR in collaboration with the National Agency for Education (Skolverket), commissioned by the government, and was published in its first edition in 2026. The material is aimed at those who will take the citizenship test about Swedish society.
The test is based on the material
It is UHR itself that describes Sverige i fokus as the material the citizenship test is based on. This means you know exactly which text your knowledge will be tested against — an unusual and valuable clarity compared with many other tests.
Where do you find it — and what does it cost?
The material is completely free and available on UHR's website, on the study-material page. You can:
- Read it as a PDF directly on screen
- Print it out if you prefer reading on paper
- Listen to the chapters as audio files (mp3) — good if you want to revise on the bus or at home
So you don't need to buy any book or pay for any course to read the material the test is based on.
What does the material contain?
Sverige i fokus covers basic knowledge of Swedish society, divided into 13 chapters — from the country of Sweden and democracy, to law and justice, human rights, the labour market, welfare, modern history, religion and Swedish traditions. The focus is on understanding how society fits together, not on memorising individual dates.
Official vs unofficial. UHR reminds us that there may be practice tests online created by other people or companies, and that UHR does not stand behind these or check their quality. No official test questions have been published yet. Feel free to use practice material as a complement — but always start from Sverige i fokus.
How to use the material
Read Sverige i fokus to understand the content, then practise actively with questions to check that the knowledge sticks. In MedborgarAppen the theory is translated into eight languages with the Swedish key terms preserved, so that you understand the content in your own language but still learn the Swedish concepts the test assesses.
